While "it's the most WONDERFUL time of the year...", it also can be rather stressful when we are trying to get our home ready for the holidays. And even more so if we have guests staying with us. I’m going to focus this week on sharing some helpful tips for getting ready and organized for your guests this holiday season! Many of us have friends and loved ones coming as early as the Thanksgiving holiday which is now only around 3 weeks away! Yikes!

Tip #1: Maybe you feel you need an entire home organization effort to get ready but my first suggestion would be to prioritize prioritize prioritize. If you are short for time, focus on the areas where your guests will be most present in and those spaces you want them to feel comfortable. This might be your guest rooms, bathrooms, kitchen, and family room to place most focus on. Whatever rooms they may be in your home, first identify which ones are top priority so you can stay focused.

Tip #2: Develop a plan. Don’t try to do everything all at once. Start by working on a space a day and break your tasks out into reasonable chunks to avoid becoming overwhelmed.

Tip #3: Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Get your family involved and have each person own a piece of the plan. If this isn’t possible, this might be the time to bring in a professional organizer or home specialist. These professionals can help with the hands-on work as well as hold you accountable and keep you on track so you are enjoying this time and are ready for when your guests arrive. Tip #4: Make sure you check your refrigerator and pantry to take an inventory of your food. Pulse your guests on what type of food they enjoy and if they have any allergies you need to be aware of. Stock up a few days before their arrival and don’t forget the essentials like coffee and beverages.

Tip #5: While you are out shopping for groceries, also be sure to pick up some extra toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, soaps, shampoos & conditioners. It is always nice for a guest to not have to worry about making a special stop in case they forgot their own toiletries.

Tip #6: Ensure you have plenty of fresh, clean linens, extra pillows, and towels ready to go for your guests. Separate them from your own linens and towels to ensure your family doesn’t use them prior to your guests' arrival. I usually set out the linens and towels in the rooms my guests will be staying in so they are visible and available.

Tip #7: Clear out a small section of a guest or hall closet to give your guests some space to hang their clothes and put their suitcases in.

Tip #8: My favorite part... Create a welcome setting for your guests by putting out some flowers and candles. You can even prepare a fun cart with snacks, waters, tissues, etc. to really make them feel right at home!

Isn't this cart awesome?

I hope you are as excited for these next couple of months as I am! This is a time to break out the festive decor, sip on your favorite warm beverage, and spend some good quality time with family and friends. Cheers to you and happy hosting!

Hugs!
